#EPA Set 2 Limit Drugs in Drinking Water
It’s not inked yet, but a new proposal by the Environmental Protection Agency would limit pharmaceuticals in drinking water. Last year a study found 25 different drugs in drinking water. Could this fix the problem?
Here’s why drugs in drinking water is happening in the first place: Health care facilities like hospitals and pharmacies regularly flush pharmaceuticals down the drain. These can even include chemotherapy drugs!
And as I reported last year, the amount of prescription drugs in drinking water is only going up: A 2013 Mayo Clinic Study which found that 70 percent of Americans now take prescription drugs, compared to 48 percent just five years ago.
It’s time we got this problem taken care of, don’t you think?
