Mommy Greenest Approved: Vital Proteins Anti-Aging Marine Collagen

anti-aging marine collagen powderI never thought I would be the kind of woman who fought aging. I envisioned myself as aging gracefully, following in the footsteps of women like my aunt, who still practices daily yoga at 70. But then one day I looked in the mirror and the person staring back at me was…different. Her eyes had changed shape; her mouth tilted down. Even her ears had shifted, somehow. She looked like me, but…deflated. I know now that many of these changes happened because of collagen. As we age, the collagen levels in our skin drop, leaving it thinner and less elastic–what I’ve been experiencing, as I get older. But I discovered a way to boost those levels for anti-aging. It’s natural, non-invasive and pescatarian. Want to try? I’ve got some to give away, of course! [Read more…]

Mommy Greenest Approved: Saison Beauty Natural Skincare

natural skincare saison beauty products lined up in a rowRemember when you were in high school and your grandma’s friend was “having her colors done” and you learned you were a Spring? Okay, maybe that’s just me. But I was fascinated by that cool little color wheel and how it finally made sense that I still loved pink even though I was 16. That’s kind of how I felt when I discovered Saison Beauty, which takes the seasonal concept and applies it to natural skincare. Genius! [Read more…]

Mommy Greenest Approved: Earth Kiss Natural Face Masks

brunette woman in bathroom with mud natural face mask on her faceI remember the first time I had egg on my face. I was about nine, and our family friend—a gorgeous woman with ridiculously high cheekbones and poreless skin—showed me how to separate an egg, whip up the white with a fork, and apply it as a natural face mask. I idolized her, so I sat with that egg shriveling and prickling up my skin for what felt like an hour, until she remembered to tell me to wash it off. People, masks have come SUCH a long way since then. Case in point? The AMAZING new, individually packaged, 100% natural face masks from Earth Kiss. I’ve got 10 sets to give away! [Read more…]

Steamcream

metal tin with steam escaping the open lid against a black background1.2.14 Editor’s Note: After being alerted by a reader (see comments below), I was disappointed to discover that Steamcream does in fact contain parabens, which are absolutely not Mommy Greenest Approved. I apologize for not doing a more thorough job of researching this product. When I investigated further, the company told me that, “”The parabens we use are esters of 4-hydroxybenzoic acid which occur widely in the plant and animal worlds (for example, in barley, strawberries, blackcurrants, peaches, carrots). Ours has a mineral origin that is synthetically refined and does not contain any material from animal sources. We buy it in powder form and dissolve it into our formula.” When I asked them to tell me exactly which parabens they were using, they shared that they were methylparaben and propylparaben, “proven to be the safest for cosmetic use.” On the EWG Cosmetics Safety Database, methylparaben is identified as a four hazard, and propylparaben a frightening 10, the highest possible hazard for a cosmetic ingredient. Given this new information, I don’t feel comfortable picking winners for this sweepstakes. But I also want to keep the post up, so this community can see how mistakes happen to the best of us–especially when it comes to beauty product labels. I am truly sorry if I inadvertently misled any of you with this post. Please comment below with your thoughts, or email info(at)mommy greenest.com if you’d like to discuss further. Here is the original post:

For years, I’ve been a steam junkie. As a teenager, I used to fill a bowl with boiling water, then throw a towel over my head to heat up my skin. Today, a hot bath does the trick—whether I’m working a skin lightening or hydrating natural beauty treatment. But I never thought that steam could be used to actually create the natural beauty products that are good for my skin. That is, until I discovered Steamcream. Wanna try?
